Ascot House is an existing office building on the edge of Wokingham Town centre. The brief was to refurbish the existing building and investigate proposals for an extension to create additional residential accommodation.
The intention was to retain the facade of the existing building, so it felt logical that the design of the extension followed a similar horizontal language.
On this basis, brick banding was used, mirroring the dark brickwork of the existing building, with the balconies and windows provided above the banding. Solid panels were created in a pale brick, where windows and balconies were not required, to emphasise the horizontal dark brickwork.
