Following the closure of the former Morley’s department store, the site was subsequently acquired by our client, Criterion Capital, who recognised the opportunity to revitalise this key town-centre location and deliver a new affordable hotel for Tooting.
🏨 Key features include:
• Conversion of the existing building into a 92-room hotel (C1 use)
• Retention of Class E commercial space along Mitcham Road to maintain an active street frontage
• A retrofit-first approach prioritising sustainability and the reuse of the existing structure
• Enhanced building performance with new insulation, PV panels, and improved energy efficiency
• Inclusive design and accessibility throughout, including M4(3) compliant rooms
This proposal reimagines a prominent site into a vibrant mixed-use development that celebrates its heritage while introducing a new destination supporting local economic vitality, employment and sustainable urban renewal.
We’d like to thank Criterion Capital and our design and consultant team for their collaboration and technical expertise on this exciting project:
